Tournament Format
Each team consists of four players. Players will be seeded (1-4) based on GHIN and scoring history submitted at registration.
Round 1: Scramble/Modified Alternate Shot
Seeds 1&4 play together. Seeds 2&3 play together.
Round 2: Best Ball/Total Shamble
Seeds 1&3 play together. Seeds 2&4 play together.
Round 3: Singles Match Play
Seeds 1&2 play together. Seeds 3&4 play together.
Scoring
Each foursome is played as a 2 vs 2 match, hole by hole. The goal is to win the most holes. Total score is irrelevant. Just win holes! There are 18 “points” available in each match. With each team having four players, with two players in two different groups, points from each of the twosomes will be added together. In Round 1, let’s say “Team A” wins 9 holes in the 1&4 pairing, and they win 11 holes in the 2&3 pairing. Team A earns a total of 20 points for Round 1.
Rules
Memorial Cup is contested according to USGA Rules along with SBS Golf Local Rules. The SBS Golf Local Rules are designed to assist with pace of play and to increase the enjoyment of the event for participants who may not regularly play tournament golf. Example of Local Rules include:
- This is a handicapped event
- Triple bogey max
- All penalty areas plays lateral (no stroke and distance)
- One touch, both touch (if the format allows for a player to lift, clean, and place the ball, such as in a scramble, both players on the side may life, clean, and place)
- We emphasize USGA Rule 3.2 which allows you to resolve issues within your own group
