2020 Joshua Cup

Thank you to all who came out and participated in the 2020 Joshua Cup!

2/16/20 Prattville, AL:
The 2020 Joshua Cup held at RTJ Capitol Hill was one for the ages!  Captain Chris Logan and his American Team held off a hard-charging Nationals Team, captained by Greg Herrington, to claim this year’s title.  And in doing so, Captain Logan and the Americans are now a 3-time defending champion of this jr. girls team match play event.  After Day 1, the Americans held an 11 point lead, but Captain Herrington pulled out all the stops in his Saturday evening team meeting and motivation speech.  And it worked!  With 6 of the 8 groups in the clubhouse on Sunday, the Nationals had completed the comeback and actually held a 1.5 point lead.  But, in Group 7, Holden Atchison (Americans) took over.  As he stood on the 16th tee, knowing his team needed his points, he delivered, playing the last three holes in 2 under par, and securing the Joshua Cup for his team.  Atchison was selected by Captain Logan to represent the team by taking the Joshua Cup home for upcoming year.  Winning the Most Outstanding Player award was Maggie Porter, of the Nationals.  Maggie not only played outstanding golf throughout the weekend, but she demonstrated the spirit of the event on Saturday by calling a penalty on herself.  Well deserved award, Maggie!  This year’s tournament was easily the most successful event since the inaugural year in 2013.  The event showcased 32 of the nation’s best junior golfers in a 16 vs 16 team match play event.  Step by Step Golf, and Southern States Jr. Classics would like to thank the players, captains, and families that participated in this year’s event, along with the incredible staff at RTJ Capitol Hill who rolled out the red carpet for us.
